Decision Making in Business

Topic #1 - Linked Decisions
Trace an important decision that your organization or you recently made that was clearly linked to a previous decision.
Student’s post to topic #1:

Last year my company had observed that a lot of students were transacting their college business using the self-service tools via the web, and with the compliance of the affordable care act they needed to be compliant with they decided to
consolidate all services that were being utilized between the hours of 6pm and 8pm at all centers, and use the savings as a way of assuring compliance with the ACA act that was put in affect by the government.

For example, Lunden Associates lost 15% of their business due to not having the workforce in place to handle the sales orders. Lunden Associates had previously made the decision to offer a very lucrative severance package to all of their employees who were 55 years of age as a measure to reduce costs.

Describe an important personal decision you made or an organizational decision you are familiar with that was linked to a previous decision. What was the recent decision, and what was the past decision it was linked to?

Topic #2 - Uncertainty

Consider how the decision described in the previous discussion topic (Topic #1) may influence future decisions you might have to make?

For example, Lunden Associates decided that before a severance package was offered to employees, that they would perform a comprehensive evaluation of its employees so that the company would not be caught with a shortage of employees.
What future decisions might be ahead that would be necessarily linked to your most recent decision?

Student’s post to topic #2:

The decision for the company I work for to shorten their operating schedule by two hours over a four day work week would be a total of 8 hours.  That change will force me and other employees involved to change their working hours as well as their routing at home.  I now work a 4 day work week, so when the consolidated hours work week goes into affect I will have to change my work routine and work a 5 day work week instead, not to mention having to change my home routine to accommodate a 5 day work schedule which may not work for me.  That may put me in a part-time working status, this change will influence a lot of things.

  1. I think that uncertainty is unavoidable in the process of decision making in today's business environment. on the last stock market crises companies of hundreds of years old gone bankrupt. nothing is stable anymore and we must put the uncertainty factor i\nto our decision process.
