Article Review on Learning and Memory

I found myself a bit confused, though, on what the experimenters did.  More clear language and using your own “voice” when writing this would have helped.  Many of the terms needed definition/clarification so that the reader understood what the research was about.  I’m not clear on how many participants were involved in each experiment, or what exactly the researcher did. The paper focuses on the research based on the visual working memory through the delineation
of the known features found in the system. It discusses the importance of the functions of the visual working memory. As per the article content, the visual working memory needs to undergo an effective control to enable an active status. The paper uses an experimental method involving individuals who make prioritized efforts on individuals’ objects with a relation to scene viewing. According to the article, five key findings came into being. The findings included the aspect of unnecessary items undergoing elimination from the visual working memory (Ashleigh & Andrew, 2012). The experiment showed more preference placed on interference as compared to preferential encoding when it comes to strategic retention. The first experiment examined the selective retention of the needed task-related objects in the visual working memory.
The second experiment examined  the prioritization mechanism. The experiment saw the lack of an important difference in the performance of memory between the different conditions involving the cue status of the relevant objects. The task-relevant objects experienced protection which eliminated any interference involving the visual working memory (Ashleigh & Andrew, 2012). It also focused on encoding as a major process during the elimination of interference. The third experiment focused on the prioritization flexibility reallocation involving a cued object in different timing. The participants involved in the experiment took part in the two cued objects’ occasions. The participants showed a lot of visual working memory regarding their prioritization aspects.
When tasks demand changed, the aspect of prioritization shifted to the flexibility transference status to a new object. The results of the experiment involved a status of consolidation of fixated and attended objects respective of the relevance of the task involved. The experiment saw consistency with the approach of visual working memory control process involving the encoding of the visual working memory in an automated manner. It leads to the replacement of some of the portion found in the visual working memory content.
Opinion on the Article
The article has its focus on the strategic management of visual working memory. The summary of the article shows the importance it has towards the development and retention of memory in any individual. The participants showed a presentation of consecutive series of objects in the workshop scene. The presented objects indicated the likelihood of testing/not testing aspect of the items involved in the experiment. Each of the object at the end of sequence showed a testable status and possessed either the same or a unique version of its token. The participants tended to remember the cued and the most current fixated item as compared to the other items found in the sequence. As per the content found from the article, evidence shows that there exists the lack of a relationship between visual attention and strategic retention.
Each of the objects involved comprises of the exclusive allocation of attention before it undergoes fixation. The experiments also lack the aspect of the appearing objects that occur after the cued objects not undergoing a strategic blockage into the visual working memory. The protecting task-relevant objects implement the strategic prioritization aspect of the objects attended before. They prevent the task-relevant objects from replacement as the visual working memory attends and consolidates the newly attended objects.
Implications to Counseling Psychology
Memory plays an important role when it comes to defining and implementing the information discussed by both the client and counselor in any session. The counselor should ensure that they take the client through a step-by-step process to ensure that they grow and change positively in an effective and desired manner. They should begin with the simple aspects of the counseling session such as an introduction of the counseling process, an intention of the process, the expectations and any challenges to be involved in the counseling session. Memory should act as a key factor regarding determining the content involved in the counseling process.
