Power and Pathos: Bronze Sculpture of the Hellenistic World

Art is a beautiful thing that is created to bring imagination in the mind of the viewer. Most of the arts and paintings usually have a hidden meaning. Those artists having such intentions usually have a low opinion on the mind/thought capacity of the viewer. For an artist to engage the viewer in the exhibition, the painting/art has to be something genuinely smart. The beauty of the art is one thing that makes the art and the artist to be like one thing. The art has to be interesting and new.

Power and Pathos: Bronze Sculpture of the Hellenistic World is the title of the exhibition, which dates in July 28-November 1, 2015. This exhibition was done in the Getty Museum at the Getty center. This exhibition comes with a picture of the ancient people and how they lived. The exhibition had been organized by the J. Paul Getty museum and the National Gallery of Art in Washington. The exhibition has been supported by insurance from the Federal Council of Arts and Humanities. This Exhibition also has the Bank of America as its National Sponsor (Deahner, Jens, and Kenneth 9).
These exhibitions were usually cast from lead, tin copper and many other elements that could be found to be of good quality. Most of the statues that were produced were made from bronze. Portraits that were representing rulers and citizens were made from bronze. This exhibition came up with statues of heroes, gods, and humans crowded reservations. Due to good characteristics of bronze, it could be used in the ancient times to come up with great artistic innovations. Bronze had the ability to represent statues that could show emotions and physical states this is due to its ductile strength and the capacity to hold sufficient details (Deahner, Jens, and Kenneth 9).
This exhibition had a greater importance in the art history of Greece. This representation of human figure in an art has been considered to be great work in almost all the ancient cultures. In Greece for example, any exhibition that represent human art whether representing the heroes, champion athletes or fallen worriers was considered very important in the sense of how status, form and character of the individual would be represented. Such kind of representation gave the country a reason to celebrate artistic achievements. Throughout history art is classified according to the common goal that artist of the time sort to meet. Although as some of the art movements evolved through the artist’s imagination and inspiration, some of them borrowed from previous art movements. The art periods would incorporate their own ideas into the borrowed ideas to come up with an entirely new style of fulfilling their goal (Deahner, Jens, and Kenneth 9).
The real point of this exhibition is to host outstanding samples of bronze statues. This exhibition tells the story of the developments of the spectacular artistic of the Hellenistic period. This exhibition achieves its goals as it portrays the importance of using bronze to portray spectacular arts. This exhibition hosts most of the important masterworks of the prehistoric world. These includes the Metropolitan museum of art in New York, it also hosts the British Museum in London and many more. The most important thing to be noted in this Exhibition is that it is the first ever Hellenistic sculpture. It was at its best and it had nothing to be improved upon it since it was made to its best. It is the most important exhibition of earliest conventional sculpture ever amounted (Deahner, Jens, and Kenneth 9).
This exhibition contains about fifty works, which are creatively created and representing remarkable things to look at. Even though there are no written texts on them, they are great arts and change how one thinks about them. Some of the figures include a seated boxer and a battered athlete at rest. The most interesting thing about this exhibition is the idealized human proportions and the faces (Deahner, Jens, and Kenneth 9). The figures are so emotional and realistic twisted in complex poses. The figures were really impressive. The work of the bronze in these figures could create a picture in one’s mind on how these figures were created. Melting down and repurposing bronze so as to come up with these great figures (Frel 53).
Attending this event made me understand the importance of art and the many reasons as to why art from a long time have been a symbol of historical events. The exhibition changed the way I look at art. I was stroked by the heightened level of drama and the new relationship of art work. The exhibition figures could relate the viewer and make him/her a part of that narrative. This exhibition was interesting to everyone who attended. The whole theater was full with most of the people who attended including children, men and women (Frel 45).
The event was appropriate for anyone who attended including children as there were many things to be learned. The event ended in good time as this was one thing to be noted when it comes to lesson planning, everything moved on well and people could ask questions concerning where they could most understand. The event meets the Visual Arts Standards for a gallery exhibit as it offers a personality meaningful art education to all age groups. All the works that were represented in the exhibition were fit for everyone to get involved in the event. Every person that attended the event had something to learn about the arts and this makes the event meet the Visual Arts Standards for a gallery exhibit (Frel 60).
