Introduction
The debate over legalization of gambling is getting more complicated as gambling become a reality. The word gambling brings in mind different things to different people, since (since is more accurate when describing time, consider using because) people have different concepts of gambling. This is particularly the case with regard to the concept of gambling in old and new societies. As times have changed, gambling has changed in keeping up with the changes in society. Regardless of one`s perspective, gambling is the wagering of money or something of material value (referred to as "the stakes") on an event with an uncertain outcome
with the primary intent of winning additional money and/or material good (Popkin 17). Gambling should be legalized to increase employment and improve the economy.
Arguments supporting gambling
Generally, (the word generally does not add any meaning) proponents of increased gambling stress three benefits of legalizing gambling: Increased employment and economic development increased state revenues, and declines in illegal gambling (consider reconstructing the sentence using better conjunctions) (Collins, 2003). Historically, casino gambling has been legalized chiefly as an economic stimulus measure. This tradition goes back to the 1600 to mid 1800, when people were typically located in small, resource-poor jurisdictions with few other avenues for economic development. In the United States, Nevada was the first state to consciously promote gambling tourism as economic policy. New Jersey embraced gambling in Atlantic City as a unique form of urban redevelopment, and other jurisdictions have since adopted casino gambling primarily as a way to create jobs and stimulate tourism (Wildman 1997).
Arguments against gambling
Those arguing against legalization of gambling can lead people to criminal practices. Those addicted to gambling fail to think wisely before taking any decisions in life. Their addiction forces them to risk huge amounts of money. It may lead them to a stage where they cannot stop themselves from betting money and valuables, in turn leading them to bankruptcy. Those addicted to gambling are often seen giving up their jobs and careers, thus spoiling their precious lives. Making gambling illegal can solve this problem to a major extent, as it will keep an efficient check on the prevalence of gambling practices in society. Crime can best be curbed through the use of law and order. Gambling leads people to borrow money and take secret loans for betting. These practices can perhaps best be curbed through the use of rules and regulations (note in blue, repetition). Generally, people fear to indulge in something illegal. They tend to remain away from something that is banned by law (the words in green mean Illegal, use illegal. Also repetition). (Reference for this paragraph is missing)
Those arguing against legalized gambling often find that it is hard to quantify their arguments; it is easy to chart how many jobs are created, and how much revenue to raised for the state by the legalization of new casinos or lotteries, but more tough to demonstrate with the same certainty that prohibition will necessarily lead to decreases in the perceived negative outcomes of legalization, such as increases in problem gambling, increases in ancillary crime, and declines in economic productivity (Schwartz, 2006).
Legalizing gambling means all the vices associated with it will be legalized as well. Gambling involves a lot of corruption, manipulation and criminal activities. This may be because some losers do not take it kindly and may still want to pursue a means of getting their cash back. This notwithstanding, it is quite addictive and causes bankruptcy as well family problems as a result (because) of cascading effects. This is not only money wise but also time and energy wise (Whittaker) (page number. Note it is MLA)
Conclusion
However (however is a conjunction. Do not use in the beginning of a sentence) how much legalization of gambling may have detrimental effects, the positive effects far outweighs the cons. Gambling has a tremendous boost in the economy of the country and it is inevitable whether It is legalized or not people will still gamble. This is the reason why it must be taken seriously by the government in order to channel the amounts received into the right channels as well as providing a collective integration of social welfare to their citizens. Hence legalizing gambling in USA will work to the good of the nation and her citizens.
