Euthanasia

Euthanasia is a prominent issue in the contemporary society because of a number of legal and social issues. Advances in medical technology, availability of means to prolong life, landmark
cases on the issue, and the declining influence of organized religion place the issue at the top of socially controversial issues. The right to die as many proponent of euthanasia puts it is in conflict with existing human rights. This paper examines the concerns raises by the proposal to allow terminally ill patients to request medical assistance to end their lives voluntarily. The right to die is a philosophical debate that has dominated people’ interests because it touches on the most fundamental values, hence provoke intense emotions. Before making a verdict on the issue, it is important to make a distinct between voluntary, non-voluntary, and physician assisted euthanasia.
