Naturalistic approach. A researcher observes people listening to music in a natural environment and then watches behavioral patterns to determine if their stress levels have changed. Watch people listening to music for some time and then watch their behavior to monitor any signs of stress
A case study will observe a person listening to music and then see how this activity affects stress levels. Study the life patterns of a person and see how listening or playing music affects them. A case study is longitudinal in nature. Record the events of a person’s stressful moment and how music is a relief.
A survey- one could carry out a survey and collect data on how music is a healer during moments of intense pressure on college students in a university. Ask questions on their social interactions and their lifestyles and need be, hobbies too. The scholar should also ask questions about the indicators of stress and not directly ask about the concept of study.
Correlational studies - the dependent variable is the stress levels while the independent variable is the act of listening to music. Ask people how many hours they spend listening to music. Also ask about the major indicators of stress and record the responses of the participants in a questionnaire. Explore factors like the kind of music the listener likes since this might be a confounding variable in the research. The possible result of such a study would be a strong positive correlation. Correlational studies have to indicate a correlational coefficient that shows the strength of the relationship between the two variables.
