Mark Twain an America Author and Humorist based in Florida, USA once advised folks to keep away from those who belittle their ambitions. He added that the small people always did that but the great ones made one feel that they can become great too. I would say this was a policy that Henry Ford the man who came up with the promise of reviving Northern Brazil’s economy and introducing them to a whole new life used during his establishments back in the late 1920’s.
When such a great mind with enormous ambition lands a place and his presence is felt, it is not something to belittle. It is something that many celebrate as it provides hope for a better future. It brings hope to the hopeless and revives happiness. The Bible gives a promise of Jesus who would come as a savior. He would open eyes, bring out prisoners from dungeons and those who dwell in darkness from the prison. That is the kind of person the Brazilians expected back then.
Ford knew the essence of practicing fair treatment. He, more than anyone else acknowledged that to solidify a client base for manufacturers, all workers needed to be treated fairly and responsibly. It was a commendable policy that most of the today’s bosses sometimes overlook. One thing is clear, though, to achieve the best results, motivation should be cultivated and it cannot come in any better way than a better remuneration of staff. When Ford settled in the Amazon, the region blossomed. The region benefitted from a monopoly on global production of rubber, skyrocketing demands and easy transportation via the navigable waters of the Amazon River. It was a complete revolution that took the city by surprise bringing it goodies that were envied all over Brazil.
A wise man once warned against fearing the enemy that hates you but instead the fake friends who hug you. When Ford sent two of his most trusted men to reach an agreement with the Brazilian authorities, he discovered later that he was given a raw deal. That marked the beginning of the downfall of the great Fordlandia founder. The man who was once celebrated slowly began to be forgotten his achievements started fading away. So much so that the people who now inhabit this land have no idea about its history but rejoices in the economic placement of the area.
