film analysis techniques
Use third
person to objectively narrate the set of the room in a reply to
this message in one paragraph. Try to avoid personal references or
adjectives that note what you think about the objects, specifically, and to
simply describe the objects, clearly. In other words, do not use first or
second pronouns and your personal opinions of the data you will describe as
much as possible to offer students in the course an objective view. Edit the
description carefully before posting to communicate the nature of the space,
please. The space is the main focus and most important to develop in your
paragraph. First and second person use should not be present.
ANSWER;
The
crib is relatively small with a blue painting on the walls. A curved ceiling is
evident from within the crib with a black picture frame running along the
entire
strip. The mahogany bed fills most of the space leaving a minor space
for study table and a wardrobe squeezed at one edge of the crib. The table fits
aside of the bed allowing only the door to open and a television screen to sit
on top of the table, a woolen carpet covers less than half of the space with
none covering the door area. A rectangular mosquito net hangs by the widow that
lies above the bed, a red curtain fills the window clapped with pegs. A picture
of a warrior decapitating a lion hangs on the back of the door, a mirror is
fixed sideways on the wall, and the door opens halfway. Most of the floor is
unexposed with several pairs of shoes taking the floor space.
QN.Write another paragraph
about how sets reveal tone or mood in films. Only select one of
the two components to discuss, please. Why is understanding moods or
tones in cinema helpful when composing set designs? How can film editing
can contribute to the success or failure of movies based on your
experiences of designing a set description when considering tones or
moods? Recall from the course materials forum that the library has
wonderful scholarly sources to help note the value of either selection in cinema
in addition to the text, please.
ANSWER
Film
sets reveal tone by expressing the actor’s attitude toward the subject, an
ancient setting may be used to convey peaceful era, dark setting for melancholy
or mournful, a colorful setting for romance and therefore a tone conveys a
message to the audience in a unique way (Honthaner, 2001) . Understanding tones
in cinema is helpful in composing set designs so as not to create a conflicting
audience intended message. Understanding tone helps model a character in a
given setting to give a clear, concise and creative message to gain attention.
Film editing is vital for the success of a film since a setting must establish
the required tone to avoid distorting the intended message (Geuens, 2000) . During editing
sound effects may enhance the tone, varying of light and camera angle to
achieve the best of intended impact. A film set may really not make an impact
by being relevant but by rather how it becomes displayed to a viewer thus
incorporating the camera expertise and creativity (Thompson,
1985) .
QN. Type at least one clear and
detailed paragraph for each sound type you examine, which will total three
detailed paragraphs, and recall that the library includes detailed scholarly
support available for your analysis to have illustrations. Include at
least one scene in each detailed paragraph from the movie to help explain
your analysis for each primary sound type. I think it can be helpful to
consider why editing for effective sound inclusion is important in cinema.
I recommend thinking carefully about the primary sounds used especially
for specific genres.
ANSWER
Identified
film; guardian angel by Ramsey Noah
Ambient
sound refers to background sounds which are present in a scene or location (Geuens, 2000) (Thompson,
1985) .
These sounds usually create a mood and may be used repeatedly in a movie to
send a message to the viewer, in the movie, the guardian angel, ambient sounds
are used in times of danger whenever thunder almost nears to capture the deaf
baby boy, they create anxiety and frighten the viewer who tends to believe that
the young boy is likely to be killed, immediately another ambient sound effects
are incorporated to signify a helper or a guardian angel when Ramsey comes to
the rescue of the young boy. Ambient sounds capture the attention of viewers
who stay keen to identify anything weird that may be happening such that it cannot
be easily realized (Thompson, 1985) .
Invisible sound is the sound which a
viewer hears without seeing the originating source (Honthaner,
2001) (Geuens, 2000) . These sounds are
used in movies to avoid displaying the real event at hand, in the movie (Honthaner,
2001) ,
the guardian angel, in its last moments Ramsey kills thunder by a blow, this is
not shown in the screen as many expects but rather we see Ramsey’s taking a blow
to thunder after which the scene turns dark and then followed by sounds of huge
blow and groaning of thunder, the next scene opens with thunder being dead.
Therefore invisible sounds can be used to avoid scenes that are not too
meaningful but rather the result is desired (Geuens, 2000) . They can be used to
save costs by avoiding scenes that would require a lot of investment to make.
During an invisible sound, the film maker ensures that the viewers’ attention
is captured after which the invisible sound sends the viewer into integrating
what happens as they observe the next scene (Geuens, 2000) .
Visible sound is sound which is
accompanied by the sight of its cause or source. It’s the onscreen sound whose
source appears in the image and belongs to the reality represented therein (Honthaner,
2001) .
In the movie the guardian angel, Ramsey and thunder confront each other and a
dialogue follows, in most part of the movie visible sound has been used.
Visible sounds are used to convey most of the direct message intended by the
film maker, visible sounds are fundamental in modelling a character and for
expressing emotions (Geuens, 2000) (Thompson,
1985) .
QN.
Write one
detailed paragraph about how one specific primary sound type we have studied
prior did not manipulate audience reactions well in a comedy, horror, fantasy,
or science fiction film. Include a scene from the film to illustrate your
ideas, please. Indicate the reasoning.
ANSWER
In
the movie, the raid redemption, ambient sounds are used when rama prays
practicing silat and bidding goodbye to his pregnant wife, these ambient sounds
create joy and anxiety, a feeling of heroism and achievement, however they
disappoint viewers after what follows when rama joins elite police squad he is
shot dead in a juxtaposition that another man gives her sick wife medicine at
the moment in the same apartments. Viewers tend to believe that Rama would lead
a successful mission into killing crime lord tama riyadhi after which he
becomes the first casualty in the ambush, I felt that these ambient sounds were
to be melancholic of what later befalls Rama.
