TYRA
BANKS SHOW
Taking the Tyra banks show, I identify
the sensational Tyra as a character whom Horney would consider as exhibiting
neurotic needs among the three different interpersonal orientations. She hosts
the Tyra banks show as a single host and has done so since 2003 successfully in
a highly competitive American talk show industry. As an American celebrity she
serves a role model in the hearts of many and this attribute drives the best of her to act within the desires of her audience.
serves a role model in the hearts of many and this attribute drives the best of her to act within the desires of her audience.
Taking the ten needs that Horney
classifies as coping needs of moving toward, moving against and moving away
from people personality types (Murray, 1961) , Tyra reveals
herself as a personality seeking approval while taking her audience as a partner.
Her neurotic needs of moving towards people can be attributed by her desire to
make the best of her to people, she tries as much as possible to get the liking
of her audience while she enjoys it too, her jovial mood expresses her intimacy
with the audience, a virtue that is a heartfelt desire to do her best through
self motivation. She is in a desire to counter issues facing women on day to
day lives as a woman herself. She takes the closeness of her audience to share
most of her private life in a desire to be likened and serve a role model (Levin, 2000) .
Her neurotic need of moving against
people sees her gain the control of others; she is in more desire to influence
her audience and the society at large. Being a lady doesn’t deter her to be on
top of her level best as she is always partial of her gender on success (Hill, 2009) . Being born of an African and American parent
inspires her to be a role model as its evident the African American culture is
a great motivation for her to do her best. She brings her ideas of social life
as those superior and those to be admired in the society and she brings the
best of her lifestyle as that of prestige and a normal American is to desire.
She instead stands out socially. She centralizes on her personal attributes as
those to be of inner and outer admiration as a measure to influence her
audience not only to be valued but to manipulate her audience to be just like
her. She values the African American beauty and is always optimistic of the
African Americans living in the united states of America, she is optimistic of
the vast opportunities in America that she poses a challenge on her audience
for personal achievement , to achieve great is a virtue she utterly attributes
to herself as a role model. While Tyra may not be desperate of power she can be
seen as a lady whom success driven motives are in her inner desire (Hill, 2009) .
Tyra neurotically moves away from people
by her desire to be sufficient and independent as an alpha woman, regarding the
society as an ever changing and less accommodating and he feels challenged to
always be on top. As a top model she expresses a sense of satisfaction but
always self motivated to make it to greater heights, an attribute that she
definitely believes will always keep her on top of the talk show industry. She
emerges as a lady of admirable personality with a psyche to change the social
and cultural behavior of women. It’s her desire to make life better on a day to
day basis, making her consider a simple life as less involving with fewer
issues to be stressed about.
