A “rip van winkle” story from ideas combined from Washington’s Irving story with a little H. G Wells science fiction.
Deadman the father of evil as the community refers to him considers himself pure but the society is fed up with his lazy and immoral behaviors, his lineage being a cursed one he rarely finds peace in kuvukiland. A period of renaissance comes and the king discovers iron mines which creates thousands of jobs where Deadman secures a job. Deadman now considered accumulating wealth considers buying diamonds to save his earnings from a mushrooming industry, unluckily misfortunes befalls Deadman as he was last spotted falling inside molten iron crucible in the kiln, his whereabouts are known no more.
Deadman arrives in hell and is welcomed by his ancestors and Lucifer, he is congratulated for his good work but finds this disturbing knowing that the only fortune he has are a dozen diamonds, he is then shown the door of hell and asked to do as necessary, being an extreme sinner and a disobeying creature he refuses and is then considered as sinning again in hell. As a punishment he is tasked with the opening and closing of the massive gates of hell. At the gates he suffers some memory losses but finds some visitors familiar.
Deadman's behaviors untamed, he sleeps on his job and visitors arriving to hell are locked outside unwelcomed for two years after which they return back from where they came from, on hearing that Deadman’s sleeping habits are making visitors shun hell, Lucifer angrily sends Deadman back to earth in a fiery exchange of words between the two, Deadman takes with himself the key to the gate and locks Lucifer inside hell with no more visitors having an entry.
At the smelting plant, now a ruin Deadman wakes up to find the facility a ruin and with no signs of life in that area, he takes on a journey to search for humans and is able to track his home, he finds his home a ruin too and settles in a cave, he is astonished, civilization is long gone and people are back in times centuries just like old stone age. He goes to fetch some water at an oasis, he meets a young lady who he recognizes as his grandfather’s grandmother mother, he is confused how he is living in the future and laments of his diamonds which he thinks would he have them now he would be too rich to work.
Deadman modern times behaviors are considered as unwelcome in the society as he is considered gay when he marries a fellow man, the society disowns him, he is considered an outcast and sent in the wilderness where he becomes so lonely and later injects himself with poison so as to die and get back to hell as he finds he can’t fit among these people of back in times. He unluckily never dies and is taken to hospital where he is later taken captive in a foreign land. While in his sleep as a captive Deadman turns to a donkey and from there onwards he is forced to work and compensate for the lazy days he wasted as a human.
