The film Viridiana

Viridiana
The film Viridiana was developed by the famous film director Luis Bunuel (1961). The film was produced in Spain after the return of Bunuel from exile in France and Mexico where he used to produce films. The film Viridiana is a narration about a native nun (Silvia Pinal) trying to do good visiting her widowed uncle Fernando Rey (Don Jaime) as instructed by mother superior before she takes her vows
. About the settings in the film, it seems to have been developed many years back in the 18th century in sanctuaries. The plan of the movie is to express the structure of the Christian denomination. The main characters in the film are Viridiana and Fernando Rey. The relation between the two is kin-based as Rey is Viridiana’s uncle. Viridiana is portrayed as a nun with intentions of doing good while Rey is painted as a widower with sexual fetishism.
The film described different cultural structures of the Spanish community. In comparison to American culture, Spanish cities have better kinship relations as well as extended ones as compared to US communities. Additionally, the Spanish tend to recognize religious and family authorities as opposed to the US where religious leaders have a little contribution to the community. Regarding gender roles and relations, Spain has well-defined roles for every gender and their interactions not influenced by incest. However, the US has no clear definition of sex roles, and the aspect of incest is highly considered to define relations between the genders. The businesses in Spain appear informal and slow in motion as opposed to those in the US that are formal and quick in action. The culture of Spain does not express any form of social classes as in the case of the US culture. Despite the difference, similarities exist as Spanish and US cultures have a common response to sex. The two do not hold sex as a confidential matter but consider it reasonable and open to discussion.
The film, Viridiana one can conclude that life and cultures are very different over time and space. The life expressed by Bunuel during the time of developing Viridiana is not similar to the current times, and technological shifts have taken place. Additionally, cultures are varied and unique hence speaking of a similar culture across communities is not proper despite globalization. Bunuel succeeds in expressing his idea to his audience. The directors value to represent instability between refinement of bourgeois scenes in which desire is held in check by ideal and carnival scenes. In my opinion, the film is good as it expresses the thoughts and attitude of the Spain people towards Christianity and sex. The lesson learned from Viridiana is on how best a film can be if based on reality and issues familiar to the audience. Although, the reality bit of the movie is expressed in different styles. It is a good film attaining a rating of 8 and appropriate for use as it builds on the past connecting to the present and predicting the future of films and culture of the Spain communities. In conclusion, Viridiana film is a Spanish product under the directions of Bunuel (1961). The film was directed in Spain and expresses the culture of the Spanish community that highly differs from that of the American people. It is a good film as it is based on real life situation.
