The Yellow Wallpaper

The story was based in a room that is covered with yellow wallpaper. The wallpaper is assaulting the writer’s sense, and it inhibits her to write. In the story, she can create such a world by herself. The tale revolves around freedom, confinement, and madness. The writer portrays horror in a gothic manner. From the story, one can analyze she is mentally ill in response to how she lived. The publication shows how a woman was treated in the society. She is neither allowed to leave her room nor write what is in her mind, and this creates the sense of depression. 

The writer tries to establish a situation of how a person is enclosed in a room without being given any freedom, and this is enumerated in a mental illness case. The husband decides what’s best for her since he is a doctor as well as the brother, and they know better. As much as the writer does not want to portray feminism, it is clearly brought out. How a woman has no choice but to get married, and this reduces her chances to leave her life. 

One of the major questions that arise is why she is creeping around her husband. It may be understood that it’s because she sees him as superior. From the end, it is clear that the woman she saw in the picture was her. She is clearly disturbed, and that’s why she tears down the wallpaper though it may be interpreted as insane. The contemporary society has set unfavorable standards for women to reach their potential. In conclusion, the storyline is quite involved bringing out a lot of lessons that can be useful to the society.
