The Big Picture

Learning and schooling are an integral part of growth in the lives of human beings on many fronts. The quality of education and the entire process involved in education becomes crucial as it becomes a tool for shaping and defining individuals. The focus of this essay is based on the text “The Big Picture” and its various perceptions and opinions regarding schooling and learning processes. Learning can only occur through
willingness and self-effort. It is, therefore, necessary for students to acquire the skill of self-motivation to enable learning.
The determination of a school by both the parent and student is crucial in helping them get access to a system that is more likely to offer them a quality education. The question of the quality or greatness of a school is subjective and thus may vary from one person to another. However, some factors do stand out in pointing out a great school. The school culture and systems that are in place within the school are some of the pointers to a great school (Littky, Dennis, and Samantha 21). Learning is a process that is on-going even beyond the classroom walls. As a result, greatness in terms of schools consists of the school management, the school culture that create an environment that is enabling for learning.
The belief in self and the love of learning are two integral components or aspects required for an efficient learning process. For the teaching fraternity, it, therefore, becomes crucial to impart these skills to the students (Littky, Dennis, and Samantha 19). The development of a rewards system in the classroom environment is one of the ways that a teacher can employ to ensure that they boost the confidence of their students and thus their self-belief. The love for learning, on the other hand, is a skill that can only be encouraged to grow and not be taught. The rewards system is one way of ensuring that students realize an upsurge in their interest in learning. Conclusively, it is critical to understand that education has various fronts, and that should be considered to allow for active learning.
